ABOUT

The charities supported are the Marine Corps League, Semper Fi/ America’s Fund and the Marine Raider Foundation.

The Corporal Reynolds Detachment of the Marine Corps League, based in Freehold, started and continues to run the event. Funds generated by the race allow the Detachment to support local veterans in need as well as Active Duty service members stationed in the New Jersey area. Throughout the year, they buy much needed clothing items, food, and other various means of support such as transportation to and from VA Doctor appointments, emergency financial assistance, and other means of support. This includes Veterans and Active Duty personnel of all services, not just Marines.

Funds donated to support the Marine Raider Foundation, helps Marine special operators and their families cope with the adversities of their mission which sometimes involves serious injuries or death. The Foundation assists in injury recovery, transition to civilian life, and financial support for those families who loose their loved ones in this extremely dangerous job that is vital to our nation’s security.

The race also proudly supports the Semper Fi / America’s Fund. The Fund provides many means of support to our nations veterans. They have an incredible program that provides artificial limbs for our catastrophically wounded warriors, provide medical and mental health support, emergency funding, transportation and various other crucial services to our nations warfighters.

From the start the Township of Freehold has supported this great event and allowed the 5k race to take place on its roadways. The Freehold Township Police have protected the race participants on the roads and at the event each year. Also vital to the races success is Mr. Bob McDaid, owner of iPlay America, who has graciously hosted and allowed the event to utilize it’s lot to facilitate the race which takes place on the streets adjoining the property. Mr. McDaid not only provides the space to run the event, iPlay also makes a financial contribution each year by providing a percentage of food sold in the amusement park.

If people want to support our event, the easiest way is to sign up for the race. There are several categories folks can sign up for. There is a 5k Run, Walk, Ruck (competing while carrying weight), or a 5k Run Category exclusively for Military Veterans. Even if you are not a runner, it’s ok. Sign up for the race and come watch the event. Every entry gets a free t-shirt and $1 draft beers are available after. It’s a great patriotic event that will make you feel good to be a part of.
